The primary producer of nickel in Zimbabwe is Bindura Nickel Corporation, which has been under care and maintenance since 2008. All the nickel produced in 2009 and 2010 came as a by-product of platinum production. Current production stands at 6 200 tons of nickel contained in concentrate and smelter matter. Primary nickel production is expected to resume in 2011 with production of over 70 000 tons or nickel ore per month. Bindura Nickel Corporation is currently raising capital to open a second mine, Hunter’s Road, and to resume its smelting operations..
